the world and the payoffs in terms of cognitive and cultural benefits are immeasurable. But is there a measurable potential for economic gain in studying languages?
This article by Robert Lane Greene from The Economist attempts to analyse the benefits of learning languages from an economic perspective. He asks whether the ROI (Return on Investment- new concept for me!) justifies the time and expense invested in learning a language? The author concludes that if GDP is what you are looking for, then there is indeed, a good argument for ‘investing’ in languages.
I wonder what you think about all of this?
