23/10/2019

Expressions of interest (EOI) are invited from teachers interested in teaching Years 7-11 at the Saturday School of Community Languages (SSCL). The successful candidate/s will be required to teach the language class from the beginning of Term 1 2020.

The SSCL is a NSW Department of Education (DoE) secondary school which operates on Saturdays in 15 high school centres across Sydney, Wollongong and Newcastle. It has been offering excellence in languages teaching and learning since 1978. The SSCL gives students the opportunity to study their background community language when that language is not available at their own school or college. The school follows NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) syllabuses in a range of languages. Students include their language study as part of their Record of School Achievement (RoSA) and their Higher School Certificate (HSC).

The position/s will be located at one of the SSCL centres. The school website details the school’s structure and curriculum. Please refer to the website for centre locations and languages offered.

Position criteria
  • - Department of Education approval to teach and demonstrated capacity and skills and/or experience teaching a community language.
  • - Capacity to plan and deliver engaging lessons and maximise learning outcomes for students with diverse learning needs.
  • - Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to work with students, parents, teachers and staff.

Only teachers with current NSW DoE teaching approval (including teachers working in Educational Services teams and state office directorates) are eligible to apply for these positions.

To apply, submit your application addressing the position criteria in no more than 2 A4 pages. This application should indicate up to 3 preferred SSCL centres.

Applicants must also complete the EOI proforma. This must be signed by your current Principal or Supervisor. Applicants currently working at a SSCL centre must include their Centre Supervisor as their first referee.

Both the completed application and EOI proforma are to be emailed as a single PDF document to the Principal at saturdaycl-h.school@det.nsw.edu.au by 4:00pm on Saturday 2 November 2019. Subject field in the email should state: EOI – [Year/ Language] Teacher.

Please note, late applications will not be considered.
