Registration is now open for the Languages K-10 framework and syllabus familiarisation and planning workshops 2018 presented by the Association of Independent Schools NSW, Catholic Schools NSW and the NSW Department of Education.

These registered professional learning events will support language teachers in regional, rural and remote schools to implement the new K-10 language syllabuses* from 2019, and will contribute five hours of professional learning addressing Australian Professional Standards for Teachers 2.2.2, 5.1.2, 6.2.2 and 7.2.2 (Proficient).

During the workshop you will learn about the structure of the new K-10 language syllabuses, focusing on new elements of the syllabuses and working with colleagues to understand the implications for planning and assessment.

The workshops will be presented by representatives from the NSW Department of Education, and/or representatives from the Association of Independent Schools NSW and Catholic Schools NSW .

Participation in this workshop is FREE for NSW language teachers from all school sectors, as the workshops are fully funded by the NSW Department of Education.

Please note: Teachers of all languages are invited to attend these workshops.

* New K-10 syllabuses have been released for Chinese, French, German, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean and Spanish. Draft syllabuses for Arabic, Hebrew, Modern Greek, Russian, Turkish and Vietnamese have not yet been released for consultation, so teachers of these languages should bring a copy of one of the approved scripted language syllabuses (Chinese, Japanese or Korean) for reference. A copy of the Languages K-10 Framework may also be useful.
The new syllabus for Aboriginal languages is currently in development. More information about additional targeted professional learning for teachers of Aboriginal languages in NSW schools will be provided as it becomes available.
