Virtual language teachers' network  –  re-imagined with feedback from RR teachers

Picture
Late last year, we published a survey for rural and remote teachers, asking them to share their thoughts about how we could better support members of a virtual language teachers' network. We then reviewed this feedback and planned what we thought the network could look like, working with 5 rural and remote teachers more closely, to ensure we were on the right track. Thank you to all teachers who provided feedback – it's so important that our support meets the needs of teachers, and the best way for us to know this is by collaborating with you, which we know takes valuable time.

2020 meeting dates and format
  • The network will meet every term in Week 7 via Adobe Connect, between 4:15-4:45pm. The first meeting will take place on Tuesday 10 March 2020, so mark it in your calendar and we hope to see you there. All the sessions will be recorded, in case you are not able to attend. In Term 3, in place of the virtual meeting, there will be a conference in Sydney – all relief, travel and accommodation costs covered by the Languages and Culture team.

  • Network leadership
  • The Language Teacher's Network – Virtual will be led by the Languages and Culture team (geographical networks are led by teachers). However, this may change once the network is established, if participating teachers would like to stretch their leadership muscles!

  • Network eligibility
The Languages and Culture team supports 16 geographical networks across NSW, where teachers can collaborate and participate in face-to-face professional learning. Where rural and remote teachers are unable to attend their local meeting, they are able to join the virtual network. For the annual conference in Sydney, eligibility criteria will apply.

We're so excited to explore this new way of providing support, and look forward to working with you. If you have any queries, please don't hesitate to get in touch with evia.kyriacou@det.nsw.edu.au
