Hunter Head Teacher Professional Learning Network – Semester 1 meeting 2019

The Hunter Head Teacher Professional Learning Network will host its Semester 1 meeting day on Wednesday 22 May 2019.

This network meeting is open to all substantive and relieving head teachers or language faculty coordinators in a school with a current subscription to the Hunter Head Teacher Professional Learning Network. In addition, one language teacher from each school may attend. 

Agenda:
1. Formative language assessments
2. Reporting matrices, marking criteria, assessment and activities to engage students in language learning and personal program development for new syllabus
  • 3. Support in applying for NSW Premier Scholarships
  • 4. Discussion of Semester 2 2019 Head Teacher Professional Learning Network Day ideas 

Please enrol via MyPL – search 'Kurri Head Teacher Network Meeting', click on your relevant KLA and at the bottom, click on 'sessions' and 'attend session'. Applications close on 11 April 2019.

NSW Premier Teacher’s Scholarships – now open!

Applications are now open for the NSW Premier’s Teacher Scholarships. The annual scholarships are a great opportunity for permanent teachers to undertake a 5 week study tour in Australia or overseas to broaden professional knowledge and bring it back to the classroom.

Scholarships are offered across a broad range of curriculum areas and are valued at $10,000 - $15,000 each.

There is the Language Teacher Scholarship and the Kingold Chinese Language Teacher Scholarship.

Applying is easy and there is online support, which includes guides to applying and the selection process to assist you with your application.

Applications close on 28 April 2019 for study tours commencing in 2020.

The NSW Premier’s Teacher Scholarships program is an initiative of the NSW Department of Premier and Cabinet and administered by the NSW Department of Education.

NSW Premier's Language Teacher Scholarship recipient for 2019

​The Languages and Culture team would like to warmly congratulate Shanelle Ingram (Hunter Sports HS) as the inaugural recipient of the NSW Premier's Language Teacher Scholarship.

This prestigious award recognises teachers investigating exemplary practice relevant to teaching and learning in languages. Valued at $15,000, the funding will enable Shanelle to research the use of innovative technologies in the language classroom to improve learning outcomes and increase student engagement in ways that reflect 21st century learning. She will focus on are robots, augmented reality, virtual reality and 3D printing.

​Shanelle was also acknowledged at the recent NSW Cross-sectoral Japanese Teachers' Conference by her fellow Japanese teachers.

There are 2 Premier's Teacher Scholarships available for language teachers:
-
Premier’s Language Teacher Scholarships
- Kingold Chinese Language Teacher Scholarship.

The scholarships are worth $15,000 each and enable teachers to take a 5 week study tour within Australia or overseas to explore best practice in their chosen field.

Applicants can include beginning teachers up to the Principal level.

Applications close Friday 11 May 2018. Please see links below for further information and how to apply.

Exciting news – a new Premier's scholarship is available for language teachers K-12!

This scholarship is open to principals, assistant principals and teachers currently teaching in NSW schools. The award recognises teachers investigating exemplary practice relevant to teaching and learning languages.

The successful applicant will undertake a study tour up to 5 weeks in Australia and/or overseas with travel to be completed by 30 June 2019.

Time need not be spent in formal study, but may involve a program of visits to schools and institutions to conduct interviews, observe exemplary practices and collect resources related to language teaching in NSW schools.

One scholarship of $15,000 will be awarded in 2018.

IMPORTANT NOTICE - 2015 ELTF APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN

Applications are now open for the 2015 ELTF program. See the media release below for more information.

Please note that the closing date is SUNDAY 6 JULY 2014. If you are applying for the program you must seek your principal’s statement of support as soon as possible.  As the application closing date falls in the school holiday period, it is imperative that you obtain this statement before holidays begin.  The statement of support is a key consideration in assessing applications, those not accompanied by a statement will not be passed on to selection panels and no extension of the closing date will be given.

A free face-to-face session on the benefits of the Endeavour fellowship and on how best to complete the application forms will be held from 4.00 – 5.00 pm on Thursday  26 June 2014 at the Department of Education and Communities offices at Oxford Street. All teachers are welcome.

Scholarships available for the AEF Malaysia Unplugged Study Program

A limited number of places have become available for educators who would like to take part in an exciting opportunity to travel to Malaysia from 29 June – 11 July.

The Malaysia Unplugged study programme will take you from the political nerve centre of Putrajaya in Kuala Lumpur and on to Sarawak, known for its natural wonders, protected national parks, and home to 28 ethnic groups, each with their own distinct language and culture. Explore a range of learning and teaching resources that have been developed to support teachers to include a Malaysia focus in the Australian Curriculum.

Scholarships of $1,500 per person are available thanks to the Australia Malaysia Institute.
