As you know, there is no mandated template for planning your units of work, as long as your units have the elements required by NESA.
We have created 4 samples unit of work planning templates – 2 for Beginners and 2 for Continuers. You can find them under each of the relevant languages/courses accessed from our Stage 6 website section.

The Languages and Culture team is gauging interest in an online planning day for teachers from NSW public schools to facilitate programming for the Stage 6 Beginners courses for early 2021. If there is enough interest, the day will offer the opportunity to network/collaborate/program with teachers of the courses, to collaborate on programming ideas and approaches.
If you are interested, please complete the short survey by Friday 29 January 2021. Please email Coreena Allen if you need further information. NESA has published information on preparing Year 11 assessment programs for 2020. You can find advice on:
- developing school-based assessment programs in Stage 6, including checklists for teachers - formal assessment schedules - adjustments for students with a disability. Check your syllabus "Assessment and Reporting" documents available on syllabus pages for course specific requirements. The Language Teacher Network – Illawarra will hold a professional learning day for languages on Wednesday 4 December.
The professional learning will take the form of a programming day targeting the languages taught in the schools of our area. Teachers will revisit sample templates of units of work, scope and sequences and assessment tasks available on the department's website. They will work in language-specific groups – Chinese, French, German, Italian and Japanese – and will program for Stages 4 and 5 for 2020, according to the new K-10 language syllabuses. Participants will have the opportunity to peer-review the resources created and provide feedback. The plan is that each language group will create the following resources: - scope and sequence - assessment schedule - units of work - assessment task. Please bring along your syllabuses, assessment schedules for 2020, devices and any resources you are planning to use on the day. Date: Wednesday 4 December 2019 Time: 8:30am-3:30pm Venue: Smiths High School Enrol: MyPL – course code NR25838 Please enrol via MyPL course code NR25838 and select session Term 4 targeted languages professional learning.
