New literacy resource pack for Stage 6! ![]() Stage 6 Literacy in context – Writing in languages is now live! This suite of resources is designed to support student writing development in languages based on current research to support student literacy. These Stage 6 resources have been created to enable teachers to use content they are working with in class to improve the quality of students' written responses in English (to a stimulus text in the target language) and in student responses in the language they are learning. They contain videos and downloadable activities on subject vocabulary, planning for writing and student writing and feedback. You can use these resources individually, as a faculty, or as part of a whole-school literacy team. By using these resources, you can also register hours for Elective PD. University of Sydney is seeking placements for Master of Teaching Year 2 and Combined Degree Year 4 preservice teachers in the following languages:

At-home adventures through Asia Join adventures through the diverse cultures of Asia via at-home lessons and activities for learners. These adventures assist in building cross-cultural understanding between the East and West, sparking curiosity about Asia and fostering cultural empathy. There are adventures in China, Japan, Vietnam, Indonesia, India and Korea. The adventures can be found on the Asia Society website. Virtual NCLC 2020 The National Chinese Language Conference (US) will be held online from 24-26 June 2020. The conference is accessible globally and is free for all attendees. Chinese and Literature Indonesian and Literature Japanese and Literature Korean and Literature. The materials were developed by practising teachers in NSW public schools, and can be accessed from the education.nsw.gov.au website or via the links above. Aurora College is seeking expressions of interest (EOI) from suitable candidates to teach Stage 6 Japanese Beginners and/or Korean Beginners courses. The positions are available from 29 January 2018 until 20 December 2019, with the possibility of extension (with the agreement of the home school principal). Aurora College is the state's virtual secondary school and supports students in rural and remote NSW to access courses not available in their local secondary school. Aurora College offers a mix of online and residential school classes. Students connect with their teachers and classmates in timetabled lessons through a virtual learning environment, which comprises web conferencing software, a learning management system, and a range of cutting-edge online communication and collaboration tools. Aurora teachers also remain in their 'home school'. Each successful applicant will be required to teach face-to-face classes in a five-day residential school program, held twice each year, as well as teaching timetabled lessons through the virtual learning environment. Only permanent NSW teachers working with NSW Department of Education (including teachers working in Educational Services teams and state office directorates) are eligible to apply. Temporary and casual teachers, and contractors working for the Department are not eligible to apply. French, German, Indonesian, Italian, Korean and Spanish teachers in the NSW Department of Education participated in the Adobe Connect webinar on Wednesday 28 June to hear about the K-10 draft syllabuses and have an opportunity to provide feedback.
If you were not able to join the Adobe Connect webinar, the recording (24 minutes) can be accessed via https://connect.schools.nsw.edu.au/p2ufx07rdcg/. The consultation period is the only opportunity for teachers to be part of the department’s feedback to NESA. Teachers are encouraged to download and critically review the content in the language-specific draft K-10 syllabuses. All information including the draft syllabuses can be accessed on the NESA site. If you have any concerns with the content in the draft syllabuses, please document the areas of concern and recommendations and return via email to janelle.byrne@det.nsw.edu.au by Monday 10 July 2017.
