New resources from  Australian Children's Television Foundation

​Australian Children's Television Foundation has released a TV series in various languages for use in the language classroom.

They include:
Lockie Leonard – based on the award winning novels by author Tim Winton is available in French, German and Portuguese
Mortified – includes an online teaching resource and is available in French, German and Italian.

These resources are rated PG and are available as digital downloads in the ACTF website.

2021 bilingual puppet show tour dates – Puss in Boots and The Jungle Book

Carrousel Theatre is touring NSW from Monday 17 May to Friday 28 May 2021. Suitable for primary and Stage 4 students, the Puss in Boots puppet show is available in French, Italian, German and Spanish languages. The Jungle Book is also available in French, Italian, German and Spanish languages as well as Chinese and Indonesian.

Trialling Stage 3 at Saturday School of Community Languages

In 2021 Saturday School of Community Languages will be trialling Stage 3 (Year 5 and 6) classes for Italian and Hindi.
​
Classes are held every Saturday morning during the school term. Students from public schools and other educational providers are eligible to enrol to study their background language.

Puss in boots, a bilingual interactive puppet show by Carrousel Theatre, will be touring in NSW from Monday 15 to Friday 26 June 2020. Book now for your 2020 bilingual show available in French, Italian, German or Spanish. It is suitable for primary and secondary schools, up to Year 8. We adapt the language of the show to suit the age group attending.

Expressions of interest – language-specific writing groups for Stages 4 and 5

Expressions of interest are invited from teachers/head teachers of languages who would like to be part of language-specific writing teams to develop language-specific resources for the NSW Department of Education’s curriculum website, including sample scope and sequences, units of work and assessment tasks for Stages 4 and 5.

Each language-specific writing team will consist of up to 3 teachers for each of the following languages:
- Arabic
- Indonesian
- Italian
- Modern Greek.

Language-specific writers are required to have expertise in the target language and to be experienced in programming the new K-10 syllabuses for Stages 4 and 5. Applicants must have successfully completed the Languages K-10 syllabus familiarisation and planning workshop in 2018 (RG03190 or RG03191).

Successful applicants will be required to attend 1 full-day of training at our offices at Oxford St, Darlinghurst, followed by 4 writing days, at a location and on dates negotiated by each writing team. Successful applicants will also be required to complete Languages K-10 syllabus familiarisation and planning eCourse (RG04277), as part of their training.

The training day will be held on Monday 29 July 2019.

The Languages and Culture team will provide release for the training day and subsequent writing days. Travel and accommodation costs may also be reimbursed, if required.

Burwood Girls HS is seeking a French and Italian teacher for Stages 4 to 6 for all of 2019 while a staff member is on leave. 

Applicants must be able to teach both languages up to Continuers level, and ability to teach the Extension course in one or both languages would be highly regarded. 


Interested teachers are invited to send an Expression of Interest and a copy of their CV, with Department of Education employee details and WWCC number, to Ed Kent - Head Teacher of Languages.
