SICLE is organising a number of language specific PL events, focusing on strategies for online language learning. All events will be advertised on the Open Language Portal under the Resources for All Languages button and all teachers are welcome. Currently on the Portal there is information about free online workshops, for Greek, Arabic, Chinese and Hindi. More will be added in the coming weeks.
You can also explore sample programming resources, as well as generic resources that may be useful for the teaching and learning of all languages. Western Sydney University is seeking placements for preservice teachers in the following languages:
Chinese – 4 Arabic – 2 Armenian – 1 The placements period is from 24 May to 11 June 2021 but can be flexible as per school’s needs. Sydney Institute for Community Languages Education (SICLE) is running an Arabic writing competition for students of Arabic K-10. The competition, entitled “Arabic and me” closes on 9 April 2021.

Each portfolio contains annotated student work samples in relation to 3 achievement standards – satisfactory, above satisfactory and below satisfactory. The samples have been drawn from a range of assessment tasks and are authentic samples of student work.

Expressions of interest are invited from teachers/head teachers of languages who would like to be part of language-specific writing teams to develop language-specific resources for the NSW Department of Education’s curriculum website, including sample scope and sequences, units of work and assessment tasks for Stages 4 and 5. ![]()
NESA has released new K-10 syllabuses for the following languages which are now available for familiarisation. They can be downloaded as PDF and Word documents from the NESA website:
Implementation of the new syllabuses will commence from Term 1 2020. See syllabus pages for more information. NESA is currently consulting on the draft K-10 syllabuses for Arabic, Modern Greek, Turkish and Vietnamese.
Attending a syllabus development consultation meeting will contribute 2 hours of NESA Registered Professional Development (PD). Consultation meetings are happening in Term 3: Tuesday 24 July 2018 – Bonnie-Doon Pagewood – 4-6pm Thursday 2 August 2018 - Liverpool Catholic Club – 4-6pm Monday 6 August 2016 – Bankstown Sports Club – 4-6pm Please click on the link below for detailed information. The surveys are available on NESA’s syllabus development web page and close on 12 August 2018. Please set aside some time to send your feedback – you can send a written submission or complete the online survey. Your feedback is a vital part of the syllabus review process.
