Our statewide staffroom in on the move!

As we've mentioned before, we are moving our statewide staffroom to Microsoft Teams. As part of this transition, we will need you to complete a very short (<1 minute) 'entry survey'. We cannot move you over until you complete the survey.

The survey will enable us to capture everyone's details, which is important for our data collections as we report on our successes to the senior executive – things like how many teachers are interacting with us, and which schools they're from.

Our Yammer group – Languages NSW (7-12) will stay!! It will be embedded into the new Teams space, which will offer Yammer and so much more.

The new staffroom is for languages teachers 7-12 in NSW public schools. Our primary colleagues are also welcome to join, if they teach at a NSW public school.

This blog/email subscription will continue for colleagues from all sectors.

Statewide staff meeting Term 4 Week 7 – recording and presentation slides now available

Yesterday we presented our last statewide staff meeting for the year. We understand it's a busy time and you may not have been able to make it, so attached please find the slide deck. You can also view the recording of the session (26 minutes) on our YouTube channel – make sure you're subscribed!.

The session was on "What if...?", for example
- What if...you need support with literacy?
- What if…you’d like to use more technology/online tools in your lessons?
- What if…you need help with differentiating activities, or with providing adjustments for students with disability?

We take you on a tour of all the support on our website, to help you find what you need so you can plan for 2021.

Virtual Language Teachers Network meeting

The Virtual Language Teachers Network will meet for Term 4 on Tuesday 1 December.

If you teach in a geographically remote location, or you are unable to attend your local geographical network, please join us. Teachers from Far North NSW and Lower North Coast are also invited to join, as your local networks are no longer running.

This session will focus on games in the language classroom, and plans for 2021. It will run via Microsoft Teams. You will receive the link via the confirmation email when you enrol on MyPL.

Videos to support literacy and numeracy in languages

The Languages and Culture team is thrilled to announce the launch of our 2 new videos: Literacy in languages and Numeracy in languages.

These short (approximately 7 minutes each) videos unpack the importance of these critical general capabilities within the context of the Languages KLA.

Each video includes Stage-appropriate examples for explicitly teaching each skill, in order to support students' literacy and numeracy development.

Thank you to our 'actors' – Brindha Punneyalingam, Will Simpson and Julia Zhu, as well as the incredible students at Baulkham Hills High School and Kirrawee High School.
