The Multicultural Research Centre is organising a conference on The Value of Languages in a Multicultural World, 13-15 December 2021, and are calling for papers.

  • - Indigenous languages
  • - Multilingualism, technologies and literacies in education
  • - Learning and using English in a multilingual society
  • - Multilingualism in social and professional life
  • - Geographies of multilingualism
  • - Media, popular culture and communications

Plenary speakers
Jannis Androutsopoulos (University of Hamburg)
  • Alice Chik (Macquarie University)
  • Natascha Klocker (University of Wollongong)
  • Terry Lamb (University of Westminster)
  • Jill Vaughan (University of Melbourne)

Our support for Latin is finally starting to come to fruition! A HUGE thanks to our small but mighty team of writers who are continuing to develop resources.

We have just published programming guidelines for classical languages 7-10 on our new Latin Stages 4 and 5 page.

We have also added a Latin folder to the Resources shared tab within our statewide staffroom, if you'd like to share your resources with other Latin teachers within our schools.

More support is coming, so stay tuned!

Attention teachers of Arabic, Chinese or French in NSW public schools

3/6/2021

The Sydney Institute of Community Languages Education (SICLE) is undertaking a project to develop and trial an assessment and reporting framework for languages education (K-12) in Australia.

The framework draws on research into first, second and heritage language development and will include the development of generic and language-specific learning progressions. The progressions can identify student learning and growth in listening, speaking, reading, writing and cultural competence at all Stages of schooling in all sites of learning.

Initially, the language progressions will be developed for Arabic, Chinese and French.

SICLE is seeking 2 primary and 2 secondary teachers for each language to:
  • - learn about the progressions
  • - moderate student work samples against the progressions
  • - adapt and refine the progressions to cater for specific language differences and work samples.

Relief will be available for participating teachers.

If you are interested in participating, please read full details in the K-6 Yammer group (for primary teachers) or in the secondary statewide staffroom (for secondary teachers).

Please indicate your interest by 5 pm Tuesday 8 June 2021.
