The K-6 Languages Programs - 2014 data collection:
     K-6 Community Languages Program (CLP)
     K-6 Languages Programs: non CLP (PLOTE)

begins on Monday 12 May and should be completed by 23 May 2014. The census date is 12 May 2014. The
data should be submitted via the online Schools Data Collection Website. All necessary instructions are available from the website.  

Please note Aboriginal Languages programs should be included in the collection.

Position in Languages team at the Learning and Leadership Directorate, Oxford Street

Due to a temporary change in staffing, we are looking to fill the Italian Language Officer position for up to five days a week for a period of  three months (Term 2, 2014) at the Learning and Leadership Directorate, Secondary Education, located at 1 Oxford Street, Darlinghurst.

The successful candidate would be paid a higher duties allowance, if eligible. We are only able to accept applications from permanent NSW DEC teachers, who would normally be at their school on the days given.

If you would like to be considered for the above position, please email a short (1 page total) Expression of Interest to enri.parolin@det.nsw.edu.au, addressing the following criteria:

1.Teaching qualifications and successful teaching experience in Italian
2. Demonstrated understanding of curriculum content and current issues in teaching Italian
3. Proven ability to incorporate ICTs into teaching and learning programs
4. Proven ability to work within and across teams.

In the subject line of your email, please write “EOI – Italian position”. Please discuss your application with your Principal before submitting your EOI.

Personalised Learning with iPads - MLTA NSW Professional Learning event

The MLTA of NSW is working with International presenter Joe Dale to offer a full day hands-on workshop on how you can use iPads in your languages classroom on Friday 30 May at Macarthur Anglican School.

In the workshop you will explore how multi-modal devices can help learners access higher order thinking skills, cater to multiple intelligences and create new ways of working.

Young People Without Borders 'Start Year'

Young People Without Borders is offering young Australians aged 18 to 20 the opportunity to participate in a Start Year - an exciting and life changing volunteer placement in the Asia-Pacific.
Young People Without Borders have teamed up with two amazing organisations to provide some great volunteering opportunities in the Asia-Pacific.

Global Vision International (GVI) is a  multi-award winning social enterprise that runs conservation and community development programs around the world. During a Start Year placement with  GVI volunteers can choose to work for three to nine months as a:
  1. Volunteer with children in Nepal,Laos or Thailand
  2. Coastal marine conservation in Thailand or Fiji
  3. Volunteer with elephants in Thailand

A NALSSP (National Asian Languages and Studies in Schools Program) Languages Support Officer position  has just been advertised on jobs.nsw. The role involves supporting the implementation of the National Asian Languages and Studies in Schools Program (NALSSP) in NSW and assisting DEC staff in program implementation.
  • This is a temporary full time position up to 26 January 2015 and is located in DEC State Office at 1 Oxford Street, Sydney.

    Learning through Languages Review

    Consultation on the Review of Languages Education in NSW concluded in December 2013.
    More than 300 people attended public consultation meetings held in metropolitan and regional NSW.

    Many responses were received from students, teachers, parents, school executive members, community organisations and education authorities.

    The consultation report provides the key findings on the Review’s six initial proposals and additional themes emerging from the consultation data. The report also provides information about the consultation process and the consultation respondents.

    Case Studies: Lessons from Practice.

    The Australian Institute of Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) has launched a major 2014 Standards Evaluation activity; Case Studies: Lessons from Practice. The case studies aim to understand and showcase successful implementation practices of the Standards in educational settings across Australia.

    AITSL is inviting all schools, educational facilities and organisations that are implementing the Standards to express interest in participating as a case study site, working with AITSL and the Evaluation Team from the University of Melbourne.

    Participants in case studies will play a crucial role in informing the implementation of the Standards and drive
    teacher quality reform. Expression of Interest open: 31 March to 9 May 2014

    Fact Sheet outlining what the Case Studies involve, benefits of participation and how to register interest.
