The Languages and Culture team are once again offering free collaborative languages 7-10 programming support workshops in 2019. These workshops are available for Stages 4 and 5 languages teachers in NSW public schools to reflect on the implications of the 8 new K-10 language syllabuses (Chinese, French, German, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean and Spanish) to be implemented from 2019 and to work with a facilitator to collaboratively program for a range of contexts. Please read the attached flyer and complete the online eligibility form, as eligibility rules apply to attend. Travel and accommodation subsidies for rural and remote teachers are available to attend. ![]()

Please enrol via MyPL course code NR18042 and choose the appropriate session. Non-DoE teachers are welcome, and can also create a MyPL profile and enrol. Instructions are attached below. 2. Implementation of the new syllabuses will commence from Term 1 2020. See syllabus pages for more information. The 2019 Chinese Language Teachers’ Conference will be held on Friday 14 June 2019. NSW Department of Education is seeking Chinese language teachers to present at this conference. Workshop for which we are seeking presenters are: - developing engaging resources for Chinese language classrooms - innovative and effective teaching and learning strategies - integrating KLA in Chinese language teaching and learning - team teaching and collaboration - incorporating games in Chinese language teaching and learning - raising the profile of Chinese language teachers - others. Session brief: - workshop sessions are 45 minutes - teachers may submit a joint EOI to present together. All applications require the signature of the applicant’s current principal. URGENT – seeking experienced teachers for lesson observations by preservice language teachers21/2/2019 Western Sydney University is seeking schools/language teachers to participate in a 6-week observation period as part of the curriculum development of preservice language teachers.
Sessions would begin in Week 6, for a 2-hour block, once a week until the end of term. Experienced teachers will provide 2 hours of support to preservice language teachers in the Master of Teaching course. The 2-hour block will be negotiated between the classroom teacher and the preservice teacher. This is a curriculum immersion and not a practicum experience. However, there will be a practicum payment to compensate the classroom teacher for their time. The preservice teachers: - will visit the school and observe language classes in action - will observe lessons (not teach), identify skills, and resources which they can use in their own career development - have completed the Professional Experience 1 - have a Working With Children Check. Number of placements needed: - 2 Spanish - 5 Japanese - 2 Chinese - 1 Greek - 1 Italian - 1 Arabic. All secondary language teachers are invited to participate in the Term 1 Adobe Connect webinar. As the webinar runs as a one-direction session, you will not need a microphone or be required to speak. The webinar can contribute to 30 minutes of teacher-identified professional learning addressing Standards 6.2.2 and 7.4.2 of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers. Applications are now open for the NSW Premier’s Teacher Scholarships. The annual scholarships are a great opportunity for permanent teachers to undertake a 5 week study tour in Australia or overseas to broaden professional knowledge and bring it back to the classroom.
Scholarships are offered across a broad range of curriculum areas and are valued at $10,000 - $15,000 each. There is the Language Teacher Scholarship and the Kingold Chinese Language Teacher Scholarship. Check out the full range of scholarships on offer! Applying is easy and there is online support, which includes guides to applying and the selection process to assist you with your application. Applications close on 28 April 2019 for study tours commencing in 2020.
