​The newly-established Language Teachers' Network – Sydney East/CBD will hold its first meeting for 2018 on Thursday 22 March from 4:00 to 5:30pm.

Network meeting 22 March – Sydney Inner West Language Teachers' Network

The network for language teachers in the Sydney Inner West area will hold its first meeting for 2018 on Thursday 22 March from 1:30–3:30pm.

Venue: Holroyd High School in the school library.

Agenda: Accreditation, navigating NESA's website and keeping a record of Professional Learning in PD logbook.

Teachers can register to attend through MyPL under course code NR19050. 

All language teachers K–12, teaching or living in the area, are welcome to attend.

A reminder that the next Brekkie with a Tekkie session is running on 7 March at 7.45 am. These sessions are a great opportunity for languages teachers to take advantage of the benefits that Adobe Connect offers for both their teaching and professional learning. Network meeting Wednesday 28 February – Greater Western Sydney Language Teachers' Network

​The newly-established Greater Western Sydney Language Teachers' Network will hold its first meeting for 2018 on Wednesday 28 February, 4pm at Wyndham College.

Refreshments will be available from 3:30pm. 

In order to plan for catering please RSVP your intention to attend the meeting via an email to the network leader Alicia North.

Meeting agenda
1. Individual goals for the year/things we are excited about
2. How to increase languages participation (article found by Virginia Leghorn)
3. Planning for the 2019 implementation of new language syllabuses
4. Ideas for Stage 6 Year 11 Assessment as per changes in NESA's school-based assessment requirements.

If you have an item you would like included please email Alicia North to have it added it to the agenda. 

Parking is available in the Tradwynds car park at the back of the school. Enter the building from the stairs which are very close to the car park. Signage will be posted.

Carrousel Theatre presents Aladdin and the Magic Lamp

Carrousel Theatre will be touring NSW from 30 July to 17 August 2018 with their bilingual puppet production of Aladdin and the Magic Lamp. This bilingual incursion is designed for school students learning a new language and the performance and language content is modified according to student age and language level.

The performances are suitable for both primary schools and secondary schools (Years 7-10). Preparation resources for each show can be downloaded from Carrousel Theatre's website.

NESA is currently reviewing the Stage 6 syllabuses for the Language and Literature courses and the Language in Context courses.

If you teach one of these courses, please take some time to provide NESA with feedback.

The surveys close on 18 March, so please set aside some time in the next three weeks to send your feedback – you can send a written submission or complete the online survey.

​Teacher feedback is a vital part of the syllabus review process.

Term 1 state-wide Adobe Connect webinar – 21 February 2018

​All secondary language teachers are invited to participate in the Term 1 Adobe Connect webinar. As the webinar runs as a one-direction session, you will not be required to speak or need a microphone. 

The webinar can contribute to 30 minutes of teacher-identified professional learning addressing Standard 6.2.2 of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers.
