The NSW Department of Education is delighted to renew its Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Korea, as represented by the Korean Education Centre of the Korean Consulate General.

Mr Soo Hwan Kang, Director Korean Education Centre of Consulate General of Republic of Korea in Sydney and Ms Lila Mularczyk, Director, Secondary Education signed the MoU, witnessed by Ms Noh Kyoung Kim, Chief of the Governors’ Association of Korea in the Korean Consulate General and Mrs Elisabeth Robertson, Coordinator, Languages and Culture.

Mr Joseph Kim, General Manager of the Korean Education Centre also attended the signing, with Mrs Janelle Byrne, Language Officer and Ms Amanda Davis, Languages Advisor K-6.

Korean is a language of great importance in NSW public schools. The Korean Plant-A-School Program has enabled Korean language programs to be established and to grow in many schools, and the Korean Bilingual Program at Campsie Public Schools is one of the centrepieces of Korean language education in NSW.

This year, we have seen the introduction of the Stage 6 Korean Beginners course, which is an acknowledgement of Korean’s growing popularity.

The annual Korean Principals’ Study Tour also enables many principals to see the benefits of a Korean language program.

The NSW Department of Education looks forward to many more years working with the Korean Education Centre to support Korean language programs in NSW public schools.
