Seeking sister school

6/2/2015

Dear teachers of Japanese,

Sapporo Kaisei Secondary School (札幌開成中等教育学校) in Hokkaido, Japan is looking for a potential sister school / schools to participate in exchanges with in Sydney.

Our school opens in April this year (replacing the existing Sapporo High School) and is a joint project between Sapporo City and the federal Board of Education. While we are a public school, we will be running the International Baccalaureate curriculum (IB MYP and DP). We are a six-year school (both middle and high school included, like Australian high schools), student numbers are capped at 160 per grade (26 per class), and all students have iPads with a wireless connection. Students participate in a number of special science / global programs, and each year Year 10/11 students participate in study tours to Singapore and Sydney. From April, we will have first and fourth grade students (Years 7 and Years 10) enter the school.

We are hoping to find a school(s) that would be willing to regularly participate in collaborative projects between Japanese and English classes throughout the year. This could include writing/answering surveys or making vlogs/letter exchanges - we would be looking to enrich the curriculums of both schools. We are looking to do realistic exchange projects between the schools and build the program up in the long term. One of our staff is an ex-Japanese teacher from Sydney and is familiar with the Stages 4-6 Japanese syllabus. The ideal school would fit the below requirements:

Ÿ   Have a strong Japanese program

Ÿ   Have access to appropriate ICT facilities (everyday access is not required)

Ÿ   Be willing to commit some lesson time throughout the year to exchange activities

Ÿ   Be able to accept our school for a visit when we come to Sydney (first visit October 2016)

Ÿ   Be open to the possibility of visiting us in the school's Japan tour

Ÿ   Most importantly, have a Japanese teacher willing to cultivate and maintain a relationship between the two schools

If you and your school would be interested, please reply to benjamin.gibb@fel.city.sapporo.jp and include the following:

Ÿ   The Japanese courses currently offered by the school (Stage 4,5,6, Extension etc)

Ÿ   The number of students currently studying Japanese

Ÿ   A description of the ICT facilities available to the school

Ÿ   Whether the school currently runs a Japan tour or visits a sister school, or plans to

よろしくおねがいいたします。
