A Canadian-born, Osaka-trained rakugoka (落語家), or rakugo performer, Katsura Sunshine learned the Kamigata style of rakugo popular in the Osaka area from the master, Katsura Bunshi VI (六代 桂 文枝). In 2012, he opened his own rakugo theatre in Japan, and travels the world sharing his love of this uniquely Japanese art form. Rakugo is a traditional Japanese storytelling technique, and is still immensely popular today. Rakugoka tell comedic tales to a captive audience, using a fan and small cloth as props to help tell the story.
As part of his tour, Katsura Sunshine will be giving an exclusive workshop to Japanese students and teachers in Sydney, giving them the chance to learn about this traditional Japanese comedy craft, and experience their very own rakugo routine!
