Our annual fundraiser for the survivors of the disaster is on again from March 1-31 and we need your help.
This year we are supporting Playground of Hope to build a new playground in Rikuzentakata. As you know, the coastal city was “wiped off the map” by the tsunami. While the community is still reeling from the disaster, there has been a tremendous amount of construction going on in the area.
Help us Build a New Playground
All Big Bento Lunch donations this year will help us sponsor the construction of a new playset at the city's new preschool. The old preschool was washed away and children have been accommodated in an old wooden building for the timebeing. The new preschool will be built on a hill overlooking the sea, and the playground we are sponsoring will be built on the same site.
Currently, about 80 children are enrolled at the preschool and by the time the new site is finished it will be over 100.
Host a Big Bento Lunch
Hosting a Big Bento Lunch is as easy as rounding up a group of friends or work mates and eating some delicious Japanese food.
Since 2012, Big Bento Lunch participants have raised more than $30,000 by:
* Holding picnics in parks with friends and family
* Organising bento boxes to be delivered to work places
* Going out for lunch or dinner and asking those who come along to make a donation
