JAPEC Cultural Exchange Program 2015

My name is Ayami Ito and I work at The Japan Association for the Promotion of English for Children(JAPEC) Osaka office as an international program officer.

We are happy to inform you that we will start receiving applications of 2015. We are sending you the information of JAPEC Cultural Exchange Program 2015 guideline as an attached.

There are two points of change from the last year as below.

1. The program fee is changed from JPN55,000 yen to JPN15,000 yen (about AUS$610 to160) per person. (Teachers do not need to pay this program fee.)

2. JAPEC used to provide $1,000 as a subsidy for a teacher who act as a supervisor of a big group on a trip but we no longer provide any money.

JAPEC was founded in 1978 with the goal of helping children learn English and also educating English teachers in Japan. One of JAPEC’s most important and successful programs has been a Summer Camp which we have organized for eight years. Until 2007, the camp was an opportunity for Japanese students to practice English with the staff of overseas and English teachers of Japanese.

Starting in 2008, however, JAPEC greatly expanded the goals of its camp. Through the Australian Consulate General in Osaka we contacted the International Services Office of the Department of Education in Tasmania. They were searching for an opportunity for local Tasmanian students to communicate with Japanese students, just as JAPEC was looking for a partner to expand its summer camp. Thus, since then, JAPEC has hosted many students and teachers from Tasmania, Melbourne, NZ and America in Osaka.

They stayed with local host families, participated in our International Cultural Summer Camp with Japanese students, and learned about Japanese culture. The program has been a great success! Both groups of students and teachers learn a lot about one another and each other. We believe that the exchange of communication will be greatly beneficial for both Australia and Japan. Thus, JAPEC would like more students to participate from other part of Australia and to visit other states of Australia.

We had 11 students & 2 teachers from Tasmania, this year.

All participants had a great time with host families and Japanese campers.
