Japanese Government 2019 MEXT Scholarships – applications now open

The Japanese Government 2019 MEXT Scholarship applications are now open for the Undergraduate category and Research category. These scholarships support Australian citizens who wish to further their studies at a Japanese university.

Application forms and details (including the application timeline, age requirements and examination requirements for eligibility) are available on the Embassy of Japan website:
http://www.au.emb-japan.go.jp/itpr_en/education_mext_scholarship_en.html

The deadline for applications is Friday 15 June 2018.

Information session at BBI College

BBI College in Sydney is holding information sessions on 23 and 24 June for students who are interested in studying in Japan. Japanese vocational and language schools will be on display with staff to answer questions regarding courses, pathways to university, accommodation and scholarships.

Free Japanese language teachers workshop - University of Wollongong

As part of the Japanese Studies Association of Australia (JSAA) conference, the University of Wollongong will host a one-day workshop for primary and secondary Japanese language teachers. 

The workshop will take place on Saturday 1 July at the University of Wollongong, and focus on two themes relevant to teachers of Japanese language and society:
1) increased diversity in Japanese society
2) digital storytelling.


Lunch is catered and travel costs may be reimbursed.

HSC Languages Study Day 6 June 2017 - University of Wollongong and NSW Department of Education

The University of Wollongong is pleased to host its HSC Study Day on Tuesday 6 June 2017 (9am-2:30pm), in collaboration with the NSW Department of Education, as part of its outreach activities.
 
The Language Centre at University of Wollongong has been successfully running its HSC Language Study Days for over five years.
 
We would like to invite experienced teachers of languages and markers of HSC languages courses to provide invaluable assistance to students preparing for their HSC examinations.
 
The HSC Languages Study Day will offer French, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin and Spanish languages across the differentiated levels: Beginners, Continuers, Extension and [Language] and Literature (formerly Background Speakers).
 
If you would like to express interest in leading the HSC Languages Study Day program in your specialist language at the University of Wollongong, please email nicholas.wilson28@det.nsw.edu.au In your email, please include your language and course expertise, and experience (e.g. Spanish Beginners – 5 years teaching; 3 years HSC marking).
 
Expressions of interest close Thursday 18 May 2017.
 
If you are attending as a presenter only (not with a class), your relief will be funded by the NSW Department of Education.
 
The day will be a great opportunity for our students to gain invaluable knowledge and skills in preparation for their HSC examinations.

The cognitive theory of subjectivity and the invisible speaker in a cross-linguistic perspective:
Zero 1st person pronouns in English, Thai and Japanese
