The new Extension resource workshop on 11 May is now NESA Registered PD. Completing this workshop contributes to 4.5 hours of NESA Registered PD addressing 6.2.2 and 7.4.2 of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.

  • Please do not forget to apply for Continuers Day (1 June), Beginners Day (15 June) and the Online Year 12 Speaking Day (29 June). Student names are to be submitted at least 2 weeks in advance.

  • Any teachers wishing to conduct speaking practice in one of the above speaking events, please contact Megumi Mamone at jtan.workshop@gmail.com – we will be grateful for your contribution and it will be good experience for teachers!
 
JAPAN FOUNDATION SYDNEY – Teaching Materials Grant
This grant is for schools in Australia who wish to supplement their budget to purchase teaching materials for their Japanese language program. There are 2 kinds of programs in this grant. Please check the guidelines below to determine which program you should apply for:
1.      establishing new program
2.      expanding existing program.

The application deadline has been extended to Monday 20 May 2019.

MJS grant for Japanese language teachers in Australia

The MJS Centre (Japanese Studies Centre for Teaching Development) would like to invite applicants to apply for a MJS grant for Japanese language teachers in Australia.

Departmental teachers: Applicants would need to discuss and obtain support for their project from their principal before submitting their application online and follow the relevant guidelines and policies.

Grant description
The MJS Centre’s grant scheme is provided by the Nippon Foundation Fund for Japanese Language Education Program (NFJLEP). All grant recipients will also receive a lifetime membership of the NFJLEP Fellows.  
 
The grant scheme is designated to support the professional development of Japanese language teachers anywhere in Australia to enhance their aptitude to become leading exponents of the Japanese language in Australian schools. 
 
The grant may be used for example for language/cultural immersion and/or field work in Japan, enrolment in a formal Japanese language course, conference presentation and/or teaching relief for such activities. It may also be used collectively (such as by a group lead by a Japanese language teacher) for the development/establishment of a workshop, website or resources for the professional development of Japanese language teachers.  
 
Each grant, of the seven (7) available, will provide $3,000 to the successful applicant. The MJS Centre Committee will make the final decision regarding the allocation of each grant and no further correspondence or communication shall be entered into once a decision has been made.
 
Eligibility and conditions
  • Applicants must be Japanese language teachers, currently working in a primary or secondary school (full-time or part-time) in Australia.

  • The applicant must clearly articulate the aim, significance, benefit(s), justifiable budget and details of proposed activity. CV must be provided.

  • Provision of supporting documents (for example confirmed acceptance of a conference presentation, agreement for a journal/book, book chapter publication, acceptance from a host Japanese organisation, receipt/enrolment record for a Japanese language course, supervisor’s agreement, a reference letter) will be beneficial.

  • The applicant must only be one person even in the case of a collectively developed project.
  • The grant must be fully spent by the end of 2019.

  • Grant recipients will be required to submit a completion report via the MJS website, by 1 Feb 2020.

The Japan Foundation - 2017/18 round 2 teaching materials grant

Application submissions for round 2 of the 2017/18 teaching materials grant are now open. This grant is for schools who wish to supplement their budget to purchase teaching materials for their Japanese language program.

There are two kinds of programs in this grant: New program and expanding program. Application forms and grant application guidelines can be accessed on the grants section of
The Japan Foundation website.  

Applicants are also strongly encouraged to email a copy of their completed application forms for checking at least seven business days before the original documents are sent via post. Applications should be emailed to coordinators@jpf.org.au

Please note: Original application documents must be posted and arrive at The Japan Foundation, Sydney office by Monday 16 October 2017.

This grant is for schools in Australia who wish to supplement their budget to purchase teaching materials for their Japanese language program. There are two rounds for this grant. (2017/18 Round 2 will open on 15 August 2017. Application deadline is on 16 October 2017.)

The teaching materials grant is for schools wishing to supplement their budget to purchase teaching materials for their Japanese language program.

Second round of travel grants for National Symposium on Japanese Language Education

The Japan Foundation, Sydney is happy to announce a second round of Travel Grants for teachers wishing to attend this year’s National Symposium on Japanese Language  Education. 
 
These grants provide funds for teachers to cover accommodation and travel costs during the conference. Teachers from WA and the NT are eligible for funding up to $750; teachers from QLD, NSW and the ACT are eligible for funding up to $500.
NSJLE is an excellent opportunity for teachers from around the country to meet and network with other teachers from all sectors and levels of Japanese language education. Keynote speakers include Professor Kent Anderson, Professor David Nunan and Dr Shinji Sato.
 This round of grants will close on 20 June. Guidelines and application forms can be found here. All enquiries should be directed to coordinators@jpf.org.au.

Travel grants available to attend  National Symposium on Japanese Language Education

I am happy to announce that travel grants are now available for teachers wishing to attend the National Symposium on Japanese Language Education 2014: Local Visions, Global connections in Sydney.
Both The Japan Foundation, Sydney and the Melbourne Centre for Japanese Language Education are offering grants. We strongly encourage teachers from Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia to apply for the MCJLE grants, and teachers from other states and territories to apply for grants from JPF Sydney.
