2019 JLTAV Annual Conference – 29-30 March 2019

The Japanese Language Teachers' Association of Victoria (JLTAV) will be hosting their annual conference at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre on Friday 29 and Saturday 30 March 2019. The conference will feature presenters from Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia. The JLTAV Annual General Meeting will also be held at the conference on Friday 29 March from 4:30-5:30pm.

Information regarding the conference program is available here. Registration for the event will close on Thursday 21 March. To register for the event, please visit the website.

Accommodation subsidies for JLTAV members from regional areas are also available. To check whether you are eligible for the subsidy, please visit the website.

Membership for  the Japanese Teachers' Association of NSW (JTAN) is now open online (under the 'Join Us' tab).

Membership for 2019 is $65.00 for teachers and $30.00 for preservice teachers. Membership is open to all individuals or members of organisations who are teaching Japanese in a NSW primary or secondary school, or preservice teachers of Japanese.

For further information and details on how to apply for membership, please see JTAN's February newsletter, which has been attached.

Finigan School of Distance Education (located in Queanbeyan) is seeking a temporary full-time Japanese teacher for Term 1. The teaching load consists of Japanese 7-12, including Japanese Beginners and Japanese Continuers. Although teaching is done onsite, lessons are conducted online. Beginning Japanese teachers' workshop – 8 March 2019

The Tanken Centre will host a workshop for beginning Japanese teachers on Friday 8 March 2019.

This workshop is to support new secondary Japanese teachers in:
  • - building their skills in using Japanese in the classroom
  • - learning more about the Tanken Centre
  • - networking.
 
Date: Friday 8 March 2019
Time: 9:30am-2:30pm
Venue: Tanken Centre, Kirrawee HS
Target audience: Beginning (in their first 3 years) teachers of Japanese
Cost: $55 (including lunch)
 
This workshop is designed for you to experience the activities run by Tanken Centre, with the aim of using the ideas and strategies in your own classroom. You will also have the opportunity to network with other Japanese teachers.
 
Please refer to the attached program for full details.
 
Travel and accommodation subsidies are available for temporary/permanent rural and remote teachers, through the department’s Rural and Remote strategy. To apply for a subsidy, please email aris.cao1@det.nsw.edu.au with your details.

MEXT 2019 Scholarships – applications close 28 February 2019

The Monbukagakusho, the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) has opened scholarship applications in the Teacher Training category, which entitles eligible teachers to study at Japanese universities.
