Taiko percussion and Koto concerts

Traditional and contemporary Japanese music concerts will take place in the Blue Mountains and Marrickville presented by the Satsuki Odamura Koto Ensemble and YuNiOn Taiko Percussion. YuNiOn also offer performances and workshops at schools.

Seeking K-12 school for Toda-city video incursion - Liverpool

Cisco Japan is the Japanese branch of Cisco Systems Inc, a multinational technology company that specialises in developing, manufacturing and selling a range of networking and technological products to businesses.

Cisco Japan are seeking to connect with a K-12 school located in Liverpool for a video incursion between Bijogi Elementary School in Toda City and a school in Liverpool that offers Japanese courses. Toda has had a sister city relationship with Liverpool since 1992, and one of the aims of this relationship is to establish long-term cultural exchange between the two cities. Presently, Toda and Liverpool have student exchange programs for primary and secondary students. The Toda City Board of Education would like to use the video conferencing technology provided by Cisco Japan to extend this relationship and enhance cultural exchange through video conferences.

The Japan Foundation's September 2017 intensive seminar in Sydney

Applications for The Japan Foundation’s September 2017 intensive seminar in Sydney close on 31 July. 
 
The Japan Foundation have updated the eligibility criteria in regards to the required minimum number of Japanese teaching hours per week for teacher applicants. This has been lowered from 4 hours/week to 3 hours/week.

The Application Guidelines, which are available for download on The Japan Foundation website, have been updated to reflect this change.

Dates:
Monday 25 September to Thursday 28 September 2017

Target participants:
Primary school teachers and pre-service teachers

Participation fee:
FREE 
(Note: Seminar participants are not eligible for The Japan Foundation Travel Grant for Professional Development Event)

Online application submissions close Monday 31 July 2017.

2017 Japanese Film Festival (JFF) School Screening

As part of the Japanese Film Festival, the youth-oriented comedy and drama Chihayafuru will be screened for school groups at Event Cinemas George Street, Sydney on 17 November 2017 from 10am-12:45pm. 

Each ticket is subsidised at $8.00. Further information about the 2017 JFF School Screenings (including booking/payment details) will be released soon.

Video Matsuri - 2017 student short film contest

Video Matsuri is an annual short film contest for students of Japanese.  
There are 4 categories: Primary, Junior Secondary, Senior Secondary and Tertiary.
Students create their own 3 minute film in Japanese language using the 2017 signature item - ‘button’ - somewhere in the film.
A great activity for budding actors/film makers/script writers in your Japanese language classes.
Prizes include trophies, DVDs and gift cards from Madman Entertainment.
 
The films need to be submitted online. Further details can be accessed at https://jpf.org.au/language/for-learners/contests/video-matsuri/  
Entries from previous years can be seen viewed under the ‘Hall of Fame’ tab.
 
The flyer below is available to print and distribute and advertise to students.
Entries close on 20 October 2017 and the results will be available online.
