2019 Australia-Japan relations essay contest

The Consulate-General of Japan in Sydney is holding an Australia-Japan relations essay contest. The contest aims to encourage and develop a better understanding of Australia-Japan relations, among secondary school students in New South Wales. This English language contest is open to all high school students, not only for those studying Japanese.

Submissions close on Wednesday 21 August 2019 and must arrive at the Consulate-General of Japan in Sydney by the above date.

The Japan Foundation would like to extend the deadline for the 2019 September Intensive Seminar to 3 July. Please note that the previous advertisement had the deadline of 19 June 2019.

Completing this seminar will contribute 19 hours of registered professional development.

Date: Monday 30 September – Thursday 3 October 2019
Venue: The Japan Foundation, Sydney
Fees: Nil. However, all travel costs will be the responsibility of participants.

Calling all Japanese teachers K-6!

Applications are closing soon for the 2019 September Intensive Seminar, a 3.5 day seminar held at The Japan Foundation, Sydney. The seminar enables teachers to develop language skills, gain confidence using Japanese, and to develop language teaching strategies which can be applied in the classroom.

The focus of the seminar includes Australian Curriculum and ICT-based learning, and the opportunity to network.

Completing this seminar will contribute 19 hours of registered professional development.

Date: Monday 30 September – Thursday 3 October 2019
Venue: The Japan Foundation, Sydney
Fees: None, however all travel costs will be the responsibility of participants.
Application deadline: Wednesday 19 June 2019

Update from the Tanken Centre – holiday workshops and places available for excursions

There are still places available for the Extension workshop in the July holidays (19 July). Please contact the Tanken Centre if you would like your students to attend the workshop.

Please note, the Continuers workshop is fully booked. Any applications received will be placed on the waiting list.

- 24 July, Year 11 and/or Year 12 Beginners
  • - 11 November, Year 11 Beginners
  • - 8 November, Year 9
  • - 22 November, Year 9
  • - 6 December, Year 10.
