The second annual Careers in Language Fair (Japanese) will be held on Tuesday 8 August 2017, at Glebe Town Hall from 9:00am to 3:00pm.
Students from Years 7-12 and university students are invited to attend. The event seeks to inspire all attendees to continue studying and applying their language skills to their future careers. Alongside cultural exhibitors, games and free activities, there will be Q&A panels throughout the day. Themes of these panels include travel and tourism, art and design as well as the JET program. Implementation of the new course prescriptions will commence from Term 1, 2018. Schools are reminded that study of the texts prescribed for the Year 12 course may not begin before the completion of the Year 11 course. This also applies to the study of a prescribed text in another medium, such as the film of a novel. This is an English language contest, and is open to all high school students, not only those studying Japanese. The contest's aim is to encourage an understanding of Japan and Australia-Japan relations among NSW secondary students. Submissions must arrive at the Consulate-General of Japan in Sydney by 23 August 2017. A letter from the consul, a flyer and the entry documentation are available to be downloaded below. The new NSW languages syllabuses incorporating the Australian Curriculum is now available for Japanese K-10.
Implementation of the new NSW Japanese K-10 syllabuses will commence from Term 1, 2019, as follows: Years 7-10 2017-2018: Familiarisation and planning 2019: Start teaching Year 7 and Year 9 elective course 2020: Start teaching Year 8 and Year 10 elective course Kindergarten to Year 6 Implementation of the new Japanese syllabus in K–6 is optional. 2017: Familiarisation and planning K-6 2018: Optional to teach K-6 2019: Start teaching K-6 (if implementing) Initial support materials, including guides to the new syllabuses, are available to assist teachers in familiarisation and planning of the syllabus. The new syllabus will be available in an interactive online format later in 2017. Additional support materials including sample scope and sequences, sample teaching units and sample assessment activities will be available in Term 3, 2017.
