I am Executive Director, International Affairs at Yamanashi Gakuin University (YGU), and am in charge of recruiting international degree-seeking students around the world, who are interested in Japan and Japanese, for our new International College of Liberal Arts (iCLA) within YGU.
iCLA matriculated its first cohort of 36 students in April 2015, and additional 33 international students (9 degree-seeking and 24 exchange students) have just joined this month. As we will offer again an exciting scholarship opportunity for 6 international students, it would be wonderful if you could introduce this opportunity to your prospective students.
iCLA is a unique, rigorous, residential international liberal arts learning habitat. A more than 80% of our faculty is non-Japanese, and more than 90% of our courses are conducted in English. Our annual intake will be just 80 students per year – both Japanese and international degree-seeking and international exchange students from all over the world. The students live in our state-of-the-art dormitory on campus and study in our brand new classrooms designed by one of the world's most celebrated architects, Mr. Toyo Ito. We are one of the only liberal arts colleges in the world to combine a strong liberal art curriculum with a world-class Japan Studies Program, full of rich experiential learning opportunities.
Our Japan Studies Program is comprised of the full range of Japanese language instruction, Japan area studies courses, and experiential workshops that provide international students opportunities to immerse themselves directly and deeply into Japanese society and culture. We offer Japan Studies experiential workshops in Experiencing Zen, Japanese Traditional Theater, Fuji Culture, Shodo (calligraphy), Kado (tea ceremony), Sado (flower arrangement), Japanese Anime, and Field Studies and Immersion in the Local Community. Your students also would have access to our liberal arts experiential workshops in Acting, Playwriting, Directing, Music Production, Drawing, and Sculpting.
Your students with interest in martial arts would have the opportunity to study with the 2002 Karate world champion, with the five-time Judo national champion, and a 7th-degree black belt master in Aikido.
Please refer the attached files for the details of the scholarship and iCLA Fast Fact. Please also visit the iCLA website (http://www.icla.jp/en/home.html) for further information about the program and application information. If you have any questions, please ask me anytime. Thank you.
