International Women’s Day – Actresses on the Commedia Stage (1550-1750): A Public Voice for Female Emancipation

To celebrate International Women’s Day (8 March) and to promote women's empowerment across a variety of socio-cultural contexts, the Italian Cultural Institute is pleased to present a talk on the contribution of Commedia dell'Arte actresses to female emancipation.

CINEMA ITALIA 2023

Date: 15 March-7 June 2023
Venue: Palace Cinemas Norton Street

Family relationships in contemporary Italy: a progressive journey towards freedom and acceptance is the title of this year’s Cinema Italia series, which will include a series of recently produced Italian films that will offer the public a close-up view of some dynamics, sometimes conflicting, that can develop in the family environment.

Italian design day

Date: Thursday 16 March, 6:00 pm
Venue: Istituto Italiano di Cultura, Level 4, 125 York Street

We celebrate the Italian Design Day, an annual initiative offering a wide range of events to promote Italian design at an international level. On this occasion, the Institute is pleased to host 
Prof. Alberto Pugnale from The University of Melbourne, who will deliver a presentation on the topic of Artificial Intelligence and design applications.

MUSIC – WIRED IMAGINATION
Duo Luciano Chessa (piano) – Ben Opie (oboe)

Date: 21 March, 7:00 pm
Venue: Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Recital Hall East 1 Conservatorium Road

The Italian Cultural Institute of Sydney is pleased to host the internationally renowned Duo, composed by the Italian pianist and composer Luciano Chessa in concert with the Melbourne based oboist Ben Opie.
Both musicians will perform a solo set, followed by a duo collaboration.
