Exciting news for teachers of Indonesian on the North Coast. Southern Cross Distance Education, in conjunction with the MLTA, will be holding a workshop for Indonesian teachers in the area on Friday 25 November 2016. A reminder to register for this workshop on 20 November. A resource sharing workshop focusing on Stage 4 Indonesian will be held at the Open High School in Randwick on Friday 20 November. There is no cost for the workshop and some support is available for relief for teachers from government schools and for travel for teachers from regional areas. Apply now! Registration is now open for the Indonesian student day to be held at the University of Sydney on Friday, 12th June. This day is a cross sectoral initiative open to all high schools in NSW offering an Indonesian program in Years 9-12. Students of Indonesian will have the opportunity to talk with current university students about studying Indonesian at tertiary level, practise and extend their language skills, participate in dancing, martial arts and cooking workshops, enjoy an Indonesian lunch and more!
There is no cost for this day, however, teachers will be required to nominate a language activity that they would be willing to organise. Experience a showcase of traditional dances and music from the province of Bali. Through this program, students will get a true taste of Balinese culture. After watching the dance performance of Cendrawasih, the story of Peacock birds playing in the garden paradise of Bali, they will be taught some simple dance moves as well as basic Indonesian language. Students will also have the opportunity to play the Angklung (Bamboo instruments) and do vocal percussion themselves! Half day and 50 minute programs are both available. We are running a workshop on how to write HSC-style exams for the Indonesian Beginners and Continuers courses. Target audience · Stage 6 Indonesian teachers or those who will teach Stage 6 in the future · Government and non-government What you will do · Learn how to create HSC-style exams · Develop a bank of exam items that can be used to put together a Trial HSC exam · Listening items will be recorded at a later date and forwarded to you. Cost · Free · Relief will be provided to the first 10 teachers to register. Teachers from regional areas will also receive funds to cover accommodation and travel (train/coach/plane) Proposed date Term 4 2014. The Australia Indonesia Arts Alliance (AIAA) is presenting a series of workshops in Gamelan, Angklung, Kecak and Balinese offerings free to government schools in NSW, through their Artist in Residence Program. All government schools with an Indonesian program are invited to participate in the workshops, which will also have a language focus. Please check your calendar and book in ASAP. Priority will be given to bookings received before or during the holidays. He is a gamelan artist of extraordinary talent with over 20 years experience in Balinese music forms specialising in the deeply expressive and soulful Balinese suling (bamboo flute) and the exciting, dynamic kendang tunggal (Balinese drum). Made Denis will tour Australia in 2014 as Visiting Musician with the Australia Indonesia Arts Alliance, working to inspire and enliven Balinese music and culture across Australia. Made Denis presents an eclectic and far-reaching array of traditional to contemporary music from Balinese gamelan and kecak to contemporary world music and modern Balinese pop culture. Sisca Hunt is an Indonesian dance teacher and choreogrpaher who has worked with schools in NSW through the Indonesian Consulate's Pelangi program. Sisca is now available for Indonesian dance and music workshops in your school.
