13/6/2017

NESA has released the draft Indonesian K-10 syllabus. The NSW Department of Education is conducting state-wide consultation for DoE teachers on the draft syllabuses from 13-29 June 2017. This consultation period is the only opportunity for teachers to be part of the department’s feedback to NESA.
(Note: Other education sectors run their own consultation).

As a DoE teacher, if you'd like to be part of our consultation, here's what you need to do:
1. Download the draft language-specific K-10 syllabus from the NESA website.

2. Carefully read through the draft syllabus. If you have any areas of concern or strength within any of the draft languages syllabuses, please submit via email to Janelle Byrne by Thursday 29 June 2017.

3. Attend the Adobe Connect session on Wednesday 28 June (3:30-4:30pm) by logging into https://connect.schools.nsw.edu.au/secondarylanguages.
If you haven't participated in an Adobe Connect session before, please download the 'how-to' guide below and follow the instructions. It's easy!

4. Complete the NESA online survey by 7 August 2017.

Teachers are encouraged to participate in the NESA-led consultation opportunities in addition to departmental consultation. Full details including the NESA consultation meetings are available on the NESA website.

Extending EOI deadline for language-specific reference groups (Indonesian)

2/5/2017

The Languages and Culture team (Secondary Education) no longer has language-specific consultants. Instead, we have four Language Officer positions to provide generic support to teachers of all languages 7-12, ensuring greater equity.

Last term, we advertised for teachers to express interest in joining our language-specific reference groups. Unfortunately we have had quite a low response rate for Indonesian and so we are extending the closing date to Friday 12 May 2017.

Each reference group will provide a range of support, for example:
- developing language-specific support materials 7-12, including sample assessments
- providing feedback on new NSW language-specific syllabuses developed under the Languages K–10 Framework
- developing language-specific support materials for the new course prescriptions (2019-2023) for the Extension and Indonesian and Literature (formerly Background Speakers) courses.

Each language-specific reference group will run from Term 2 2017 to the end of Term 3 2018.

Membership is limited to NSW public school teachers 7-12. We are seeking 3-5 members per group. Membership may support working towards ‘Highly Accomplished’ (standards 1.3.3, 2.1.3 and 2.3.3).

The time-commitment will vary according to the language and the time of year, but will not exceed six days per teacher. Participation dates will be negotiable. Relief will be paid to schools.

If you’d like to express interest in being part of a group, and working with the Languages and Culture team, please complete the attached Expression of Interest (EOI) form and email to nicholas.wilson28@det.nsw.edu.au

Closing date: 12 May 2017
