Mosman Art Gallery is proud to be presenting a selection of rare Indonesian textiles from the private collection of Dr John Yu AC and the late Dr George Soutter AM. Encounters with Bali reveals the sophistication, beauty and use of textiles from across the Indonesian Archipelago. It offers insights to textile collecting, production techniques and links Australia to Asia through a shared passion of collecting, a love of travel and the joy of seeking out objects. This important collection was amassed over a thirty-year engagement with Bali and Indonesia and it is the first time these rare textile works are on public view. The Gallery welcomes visits from schools and can arrange special Q&A sessions for students. Contact Mosman Art Gallery for more information on 9978 4178. ![]()

A limited number of places have become available for educators who would like to take part in an exciting opportunity to travel to Malaysia from 29 June – 11 July.
Scholarships of $1,500 per person are available thanks to the Australia Malaysia Institute. See the News page for more detail. My name is Andrew Dowling and I have just moved to Sydney. I am seeking opportunities to teach Indonesian in the TAFE, secondary or primary sector. I am living in the Shire but am willing to travel outside that area. I
have extensive experience teaching Indonesian as well as working for many years as a linguist with the Department of Defence in Canberra. To give some context, I taught Indonesian at Brighton Secondary School, and then numerous others, in Adelaide from 1994 to 2003. I have taught from year 8 to 12 and have incorporated such cultural aspects as cooking, batik, dance, gamelan (at Flinders Uni Pendopo) and silat. I have maintained a defence language level rating of 3 over my nine years as a linguist in Canberra and have had extensive in-country training in Indonesia and Malaysia. Aside from work opportunities, I am happy to come and talk to senior classes about my experiences using the language in the workforce. Please feel free to contact me via email at dowling.andrew88@gmail.com or via phone on 0402 003 722. TAFENSW is seeking applications from suitably qualified teachers in a range of languages. Visit the News page for more detail. Application close this Friday 23 May.
