SHADOW PUPPET PERFORMANCES AT BRUNSWICK PUBLIC SCHOOL

31/3/2015

Year 10 students from Mullumbimby High School entertained 56 year 6 students from Brunswick Public School today by writing, creating and performing traditional Indonesian shadow puppet plays called Wayang.

The puppet shows were produced by the Year 10 elective Indonesian class and told stories of finding Nemo, counting classroom objects and shopping for pets. The Indonesian language used in the plays was explained and reinforced through interactive games with prizes.

Yudi, the Balinese assistant teacher at Mullumbimby High School inspired and directed the students with their wayang creations. Elke Buhrich, teacher of Indonesian at Mullumbimby High School explained “This has been a enjoyable learning experience for all involved and a great opportunity to develop relationships with our sister school."

KOMPETISI SISWA 2015

19/3/2015

Each year the Department of Education and Communities coordinates the Kompetisi Siswa, a writing competition for students of Indonesian from Kindergarten to Year 10. Many teachers find this a great opportunity to raise the profile of Indonesian within their school community and for their students to experience competing with students in other schools at a state level.

Each Stage (Years 1-2, Years 3-4) etc is given a different topic and format for their writing task. Teachers are asked to coordinate their students’ work by selecting six entries per year group to be entered in the competition.

The closing date for entries is Friday 26 June 2015.

Prizes for first place, second place and highly commended are generously donated by the Australia-Indonesia Association of NSW. All students will receive a certificate of participation from the MLTA of NSW. Each participating school will receive a certificate of recognition from the Indonesian Consulate. See below for competition rules and entry forms.
