Dear colleagues,
As we have reached the end of a most extraordinary school year, I would like to express my admiration for the resilience of all Greek language teachers and learners who, this year, embraced new ways of teaching and learning respectively, while dealing with the uncertainties of a worldwide pandemic.
I feel grateful for having worked in environments where safety was prioritised throughout the time that I was also part of a shared effort to keep students connected and engaged in learning.
It is true that such meaningful endeavours as the Examinations for the Certificate of Attainment in Greek and the NSW Greek Language Teachers’ Workshop did not go ahead this challenging year, but it is important to commend the continued commitment to Greek language learning evidenced by students’ participation in the Greek language programs, the everyday educational achievements in Greek as well as students’ choice of Modern Greek for their HSC exam.
Although working for this role remotely for most of 2020, we have managed to work very closely as a team and for this I would like to thank my colleagues at the Learning and Teaching Directorate (NSW Department of Education), especially, Elisabeth Robertson, Konnie Zagrimanis, Stephen Nogher, Anastasia Casimatis and Evia Kyriacou.
I truly hope that you all enjoy a well-deserved break from work in the coming weeks.
