The time has come to gear up and get ready for the 8th Greek Student Film Festival! The Greek Student Film Festival encourages the maintenance of the Greek culture and the use of the Greek language in creative and innovative ways. The project in NSW is presented by the following organisations: Greek Film Festival, Greek Orthodox Community of NSW and the Education Office of the Consulate General of Greece in Sydney. Entries will be screened during the 25th Greek Film Festival held at Palace Cinemas Norton Street in Leichhardt in mid-October 2018. The topic for this year’s competition is: “A journey” Participants are encouraged to interpret the topic as creatively as they wish. Each short film should not exceed 5mins. This year’s signature item is a LEAF. Participants who choose to include a LEAF in their film can do so, in any way they like, whether it be a part of the main story or simply in the background of a shot. Short films can be submitted in any of the following genres, but must use Greek as the main language: 1. Animation 2. Documentary 3. Fiction The competition will be divided into two categories: 1. Primary School students 2. Secondary School students There will be with three prizes awarded in each category: 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Students and groups wishing to participate in this year’s competition are invited to express their interest by submitting the attached form by Monday August 20, 2018 to greekfestival@goc.com.au ![]()

EOI - Seeking experienced teachers to develop resources for Modern Greek Stage 6 Extension course5/9/2017 The Languages and Culture team is seeking experienced departmental (DoE) teachers of the Stage 6 Modern Greek Extension course to create high-quality support materials for the new course prescriptions (2019-2023) that will be implemented in Term 4 2018. Participation in the writing project will be over a period of 5 days: - Monday 4 December 2017 - Tuesday 12 December 2017 - Wednesday 13 December 2017 - Thursday 15 February 2018 - Friday 23 February 2018. Non-metropolitan teachers are welcome to apply - travel and accommodation reimbursements are available. Dear Collegues, The Department of Education and Communities of NSW would like to invite all Greek language teachers and academics to share with their collegues, ideas for educational theory and practice in regards to the Conference for Greek Language which is being held every two years. People of Greek heritage within the community might be willing to give an insight about the history and evolution of Greek language and culture within the Australian context. You are all most welcome to apply for an expression of interest using the form attached and send it our e-mail (hellenicedu.sydney@gmail.com). We would also like to hear your ideas for what you would be most interested in as an audience in relation to Greek language and culture as we have already asked you to do so with our survey. If you have a vague idea about a topic but you are not ready to give a detailed overview yet, please do not hesitate to contact me personally so we can go through it together and conclude to something more concrete. It offers a valid and professional opinion of one’s knowledge of Greek, as well as strengthening the teaching of the Greek language in Australia, while maintaining ties with Greece.
