Youth Conference for Diaspora Students in Athens

The General Consulate of Greece in Sydney would like to inform teachers or parents of children of Greek origin in Sydney/NSW who are between 15-17 years old, in order to participate in Youth Conference for the period of 
29th of July until 11th of August 2014 in Athens in Greece, especially designed for Greek Diaspora teenagers in order to enhance the Greek national identity and create bonds with modern Greece.
The conference aims to give the opportunity to young students of Greek origin and good academic background, make friendships with other Greek Diaspora teenagers from 5 Continents! 

The GSGA (General Secretariat for Greeks Abroad) is responsible for the programme wchich includes:
- Visits to museums and other places such as Acropolis, the museum of Acropolis, Planetarium, Delphi, Galaxidi, Nauplio, Epidaurus, Mycynes, Sounio, Ligina, Afaia Temple, Sparta, Mystra, Gytheio,
- Visits to the Parliament and the Presidents' mansion,
- Lectures on the timelessness of the Greek Spirit and the national benefactors
-Teaching traditional dances and songs
-Observation and Participation in cultural events and activities aiming to understand contemporary Greece
-Swimming in the Greek Sea

A group of 3 (three) teenagers from NSW will be selected based on the following criteria:
-One of the parents must be of Greek origin
-Students must be of age 15-17 yo
-Parents must not work for the Greek State abroad
-Very Good Academic Scores

Application Deadline is the 14th of April 2014

Both parents need to sign and submit
a)the application
b)a recent Photo of the candidate
c)a GP's certificate for the candidate's good mental and physical health

Expenses such as accommodation and participation are covered by the General Secretariat for Greeks Abroad. However, the flight to and from Greece will be covered by the parents.

Summer Camp in Greece for NSW students (9-13 yo)

The General Consulate of Greece in Sydney would like to inform teachers or parents of children of Greek origin in Sydney/NSW who are between 9-13 years old, in order to participate in a summer camp for the period of  
7th of August until 21st of August 2014 in MALESINA (Fthiotida) in Greece, especially designed for the needs of Greek Diaspora children.

Applications should be submitted to the Education office in the Consulate General of Greece in Sydney and the deadline for the Malesina summer camp will be the 15th of April 2014


Application should include the downloadable Application form completed and signed by the parent, a valid passport coloured photocopy as well as a certification of a paediatrician that states the good physical and mental health of the child in order to participate in athletic activities.


A group of 9 (nine) children from NSW will be selected based on the following criteria:
-One of the parents must be of Greek origin
-Children must be of age 9-13 yo 
-Parents must not work for the Greek State abroad 

If applicable please include in your application:
- a certificate of public or other institution that the child is attending Greek language lessons 
- a certificate by Greek Associations that the child participates in activities relevant to Greek culture
- a reference for good or excellent grades in the Greek language 
NOTE: If children are close to the age of 13 they will be prioritised as they won't have the chance to participate in the future.


Expenses such as accommodation, food, participation in educational and recreational programs and excursions, are covered by the General Secretariat for Greeks Abroad. 
However, the flight to and from Greece will be covered by the parents 
The GCSA will be responsible for the children's transportation from the airport of Athens or Thessaloniki to the camps.


The camp will be under 24 hour GSGA staff surveillance and programme will include:

-Lessons of Greek language and history
-Excursions and visits to historical, archeological locations, museums and other significant areas
-Educational programmes
-Teaching of traditional songs and dances
-Swimming programs
- Group educational games, athletic activities, painting and craftsmanship.

COURSES AT THE HELLENIC CULTURE CENTRE WITH ERASMUS PLUS

Join courses through a Mobility Grant by the ERASMUS Plus! 

Organizations that are involved in adult, school or VET education can apply for an Erasmus KA1 Mobility grant to send members of their staff to attend courses in another country for the next one or two years.
 
The HELLENIC CULTURE CENTRE offers courses in Greece (Athens, Santorini Island), in Germany (Berlin) and Spain (Barcelona):
 
A. 6-day courses (Friday-Wednesday)
 
1. Intercultural Skills for adult educators, school teachers and mentors (Working language: ENGLISH)
2. Informal Language teaching methodologies: Language Café, Language Exchange, Montessori for Adults (Working language: ENGLISH)
3. Teaching a foreign language today: an eclectic perspective (for teachers of all foreign  languages) (Working language: ENGLISH)
 
4. I Teach Greek: Training Course in Teaching Greek as a Foreign Language (Working language: GREEK)
5. Learning to teach Greek  (Working language: GREEK)
6. Teaching Greek to Adults  (Working language: GREEK)
7.Greek as a foreign language  (Working language: GREEK)
8.Teacher Training: Greek to non-  native speakers  (Working language: GREEK)
 
B. 10-day courses (Monday- Friday)
1.Greek Language and Culture Integrated Programme (Working language: GREEK and ENGLISH, depending on the level)
 
C. 3- day courses (Friday-Sunday)
1. Language games for all language classes (Working language: ENGLISH)
 
Note: this course will be offered as a 6-day course too. Any of the 6-day courses could also be offered as a 3-day course, after a relevant adjustment of course content.
New courses will be added on Certification of language teachers in 2015.

This opportunity is provided by the Key Action 1: Learning Mobility of Individuals of the Erasmus Plus Programme. The organization has to submit an application to the National Agency of the country where it is based. In this Application, the organization has to describe a mobility project, in the context of which members of its staff can attend different courses by different providers in Europe.
 
What your organization should do to apply:
 
Step 1: Register your organization at the European Commission Authentication Service (ECAS) using the information here:http://eeas.europa.eu/media/subscribe/ecas-user-manual.pdf
 
Step 2: After registering at ECAS, you have to register at register at the Participant Portal at http://ec.europa.eu/education/participants/portal/desktop/en/home.html in order to get your Personal Identification Code- PIC
 
Step 3: Contact your National Agency (http://ec.europa.eu/programmes/erasmus-plus/national-agencies_en.htm) and find the application form for Erasmus Plus KA1. There are different forms for organizations that are involved in Adult, School or VET education.
 
Step 4: Fill in your application according to the mobilities you wish to realize. Use the description of our courses found above and ask us for further advice.
 
Step 5: Submit your application to your National Agency by March 24th, 2014.
