3/2/2016

Are you interested in working as a foreign language assistant at a German secondary school for 9 months?

Language assistants support the English teacher to improve students’ conversation and pronunciation skills, and increase students’ knowledge of Australian everyday life, culture, literature and current issues. Language assistants work for approximately 12 hours per week, plus lesson preparation time.

If awarded the scholarship, you will commence your stay in Germany with an introductory seminar in August/September, and finish on 31 May of the following year. 12 positions are available each year. This is an excellent opportunity to spend an extended period of time in Germany and perhaps even study a semester at a German university.

SCHOLARSHIP
- €800.00 per month, health, accident and public liability insurance
- One-off travel grant of €1000.00

REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must:
  • - have completed a tertiary degree (BA or similar)

The Language Teaching Assistant program for NSW government schools will run again next year. There will be 5 French, 3 German and 1 Indonesian assistant. Principals have been advised of this program in the 14 August 2015 SchoolBiz.

Schools now run their own budgets under Local Schools, Local Decisions.  It is now up to the school's principal to agree to pay the assistant in the school.

Before applying for an assistant you will need to discuss your faculty needs with your Head Teacher and with the Principal.  Several schools could apply to share one assistant throughout the year.

The application form is attached below and you will need to download it, fill it in and take it to your Principal for signature. Please return the application form to Maria Lomis at Maria.lomis@det.nsw.edu.au by
28 August 2015.

You will be advised in early September of the outcome of your school’s application.

Further information is available by phoning Marie Ange Lewis on 02 9244 5573.
