Language Maintenance Courses in Sydney – levels B2-C2 (German)

Goethe-Institute's Language Maintenance Courses are back this summer! Study German in the morning and take a dip at Bondi Beach in the afternoon – or participate in one of the workshops offered in the afternoon. 

The Languages and Culture team is offering partial scholarships to support teachers of German 7-12 from NSW public schools to attend the Language Maintenance Courses at Woollahra. The scholarships will cover $300 towards the event registration fee and up to $300 towards travel and/or accommodation expenses. 

If you are a teacher of German 7-12 in a NSW public school, and are interested in receiving support to attend this valuable professional learning event, please read the information on the attached EOI, and send your completed form to Evia Kyriacou by 5pm on Monday 6 January 2020.

The August 2019 Goethe Institut newsletter has arrived, with lots to offer NSW German teachers.

​Scholarships for German language courses in 2020
Apply for a scholarship to participate in a 4-week German language course at a Goethe-Institut in Germany. The scholarship provides the opportunity to update German language skills in a German-speaking environment, while the accompanying cultural and leisure program enables you to learn more about Germany.
Application deadline: 20 September 2019

Scholarships for online DLL courses
Deutsh Lehren Lernen is an innovative professional learning and further training program of the Goethe-Institut. It consists of a 10-week long set of online courses on different subjects designed for German teachers looking for professional learning utilising the latest training methods and newest materials.

Schools for sustainability – think, research act!
A competition for Year 7-12 students. In teams students explore the ecological situation in their place of residence, their street or at their school.
Registration deadline: 21 October 2019

Goethe im Garten school visits
Would you like to give your students a stimulating break from the classroom? Take your students to visit the community garden at the Goethe-Institut in Sydney to observe the garden and meet the hive of native stingless bees. Students will also learn about healthy food while expanding and deepening their German language skills.

Merit awards
Place an order for free book prizes for school students who have show superior achievement in their studies of the German language.

Year 10 German award – Goethe-Institut NSW/ACT

The Goethe-Institut Sydney invites students of German in Year 10 to participate in this competition to attend a 3-week language course in Germany in January 2019.

The winner will receive a scholarship for a 3-week language course, including airfares and full board. Second and third place winners will be awarded an intensive holiday course at the Goethe-Institut Sydney, to be taken before November 2019.


To apply for the award students need to:
- 
hand in a flyer, poster or brochure in GERMAN presenting “Deutsch in meiner Welt”
- write a supporting letter in ENGLISH (approx. 200 words) explaining why he/she is the ideal candidate for this scholarship.

Application deadline: 30 March 2018

REMINDER: NSW Department of Education - Scholarship support for Goethe Institut Summer School 2018

A reminder to all NSW Department of Education teachers of German, that the Language and Culture team is offering scholarships to support secondary German teachers from NSW public schools to attend the Goethe Institute 2018 German Summer School on Ocean Street, from 8-15 January 2018.

The department is offering up to five partial scholarships to secondary teachers of German currently employed in NSW public schools. The scholarships will cover 50% of the event registration fee plus up to $500 towards accommodation and travel expenses. 

This event provides a targeted immersion experience for German learners/teachers at various levels of language competence, and also offers a five-day professional learning module for teachers with a language level of B1 and above.

This year, for the first time, the Goethe Insitut is offering the new module “Landeskunde” (an addition to DLL 5: “Lernmaterialien und Medien”), which will focus on the following questions:

•        What do you consider as “Landeskunde”?
•        What is culture?
•        Which cultural topics or learning objectives are taught in a textbook unit?
 
In this professional development course, you will develop units that you can use in your lessons to gradually introduce your students to the topic of “Landeskunde”. The module is designed to enhance your personal teaching practice and expand your intercultural teaching 'toolbox'. 

Don't forget, members of the NSW MLTA are also eligible to apply for funding for up to 50% of the event registration cost. 

If you are a secondary teacher of German in a NSW public school, and are interested in receiving support to attend this valuable professional learning event, please complete the attached EOI and return it with a one page supporting statement to Michelle Walls by 5pm on Tuesday 21 November  2017 (Note: We have extended the closing date).

The Goethe-Institut offers a range of professional learning opportunities, including scholarships, to teachers of German in NSW and around the country.

ONLINE LANGUAGE COURSE SCHOLARSHIPS FOR TEACHERS OF GERMAN

The Goethe-Institute Australia is offering two new online scholarships for teachers of German. 

Deutsch Online Lehrkräfte

For non-native teachers of German who want to improve their German language skills, the "Deutsch Online Lehrkräfte" course is available with two start dates this semester, 4 September and 9 October 2017. The course requires a time commitment of approximately 35 hours over ten weeks and is delivered exclusively online. To take part in the course you need to have at least B1 level German language competence. 

DaF Basiskompetenzen - DLL 8: DaF für Kinder: Primary

This course is for primary teachers wanting to refresh their language teaching skills and make lessons more effective. There are two start dates this semester, 18 September and 20 November 2017.  The course requires a time commitment of approximately 50 hours over ten weeks and is delivered exclusively online.

Both of these courses are available at no cost for successful scholarship applicants and can contribute to teacher identified professional learning hours.

SCHOLARSHIPS FOR GERMAN LANGUAGE, TEACHING METHODOLOGY AND SOCIO-CULTURAL STUDIES COURSES IN GERMANY IN 2018

Language Proficiency Scholarships offer four week German language courses at Goethe-Institutes across Germany. The scholarships provide the opportunity to update German language skills in an immersion setting, while the included cultural and leisure program gives you the chance to learn more about Germany. Teaching Methods and Socio-Cultural Studies Scholarships and the Professional Development Facilitators Scholarship update teachers' socio-cultural knowledge of German and review methodological and didactic issues in the teaching of German as a foreign language. Scholarship opportunity: Foreign language assistant in Germany

Are you interested in working as a foreign language assistant at a German secondary school for 9 months?

Language assistants support the English teacher to improve students’ conversation and pronunciation skills, and increase students’ knowledge of Australian everyday life, culture, literature and current issues. Language assistants work for approximately 12 hours per week, plus lesson preparation time.

If awarded the scholarship, you will commence your stay in Germany with an introductory seminar in August/September, and finish on 31 May of the following year. 12 positions are available each year. This is an excellent opportunity to spend an extended period of time in Germany and perhaps even study a semester at a German university.

SCHOLARSHIP
- €800.00 per month, health, accident and public liability insurance
- One-off travel grant of €1000.00
 
REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must:
  • - have completed a tertiary degree (BA or similar)
  • - have a very good knowledge of German
  • - be under the age of 29, be in good health and independent.

The Goethe-Institut is this year once again offering the following scholarships:

Seminars: TEACHING METHODS & SOCIO-CULTURAL SCHOLARSHIPS for teachers of German and PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FACILITATORS SCHOLARSHIPS for teachers of German involved in further training/networking (Professional development facilitators). Please note that the deadline is 15 October
2014.

Courses: LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY SCHOLARSHIPS for CURRENT and FUTURE TEACHERS of German at a four week language course at a Goethe-Institut in Germany.

CLOSING DATES for the Goethe-Institut Australien, Sydney to receive applications is:

IMPORTANT NOTICE - 2015 ELTF APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN

Applications are now open for the 2015 ELTF program. See the media release on the News page for more information.

Please note that the closing date is SUNDAY 6 JULY 2014. If you are applying for the program you must seek your principal’s statement of support as soon as possible.  As the application closing date falls in the school holiday period, it is imperative that you obtain this statement before holidays begin.  The statement of support is a key consideration in assessing applications, those not accompanied by a statement will not be passed on to selection panels and no extension of the closing date will be given.

A free face-to-face session on the benefits of the Endeavour fellowship and on how best to complete the application forms will be held from 4.00 – 5.00 pm on Thursday  26 June 2014 at the Department of Education and Communities offices at Oxford Street. All teachers are welcome.
