GETVICO24 – virtual German teacher conference 2020

The first edition of GETVICO virtual conference will be held on 20-21 October 2020. GETVICO is a virtual platform for German teachers to exchange ideas, resources and teaching practices. The conference will be held in German.

Calling all German Teachers K-12!

The NSW Department of Education, in collaboration with the Association of Independent Schools and the Goethe-Institut Sydney will be hosting the German Teachers' Conference Blick in die Zukunft on 22 March 2019.

The conference will focus on programming the new German K-10 syllabus, task design in Stage 6 and discussion around the new HSC Extension prescribed test. There will also be presentations on the support available to German teachers and students and an update on current events in Germany.

The conference addresses standards 2.1.2, 2.3.2, 6.2.2.

NSW German Teachers' Conference – travel and accommodation subsidies now available

Applications for travel and accommodation subsidies for rural and remote teachers from NSW public schools are now open for teachers 7-12 wishing to attend the German Teachers' Conference in Sydney. The details and requirements are outlined below.

Authority to travel
Your travel must be approved in advance by the principal, and the appropriate form or online application must be completed.

What costs are covered?
Rural and remote participants should make all travel arrangements for flights, hire car or long-distance train or bus travel through their school’s office/P-card.

Participants should select the most time- and cost-effective method of travel to the German Conference at the Goethe-Institut, 90 Ocean Street Woollahra. Expenses related to private vehicles such as petrol will not be reimbursed and meals are also not reimbursed.

To apply for travel and accommodation subsidies, please contact Maxine Acosta. Applications close on Tuesday 26 February.

Call for presenters – NSW cross-sectoral German Teachers' Conference 2019

The Languages and Culture team is seeking teachers to present at the German Teachers’ Conference, to be held on Friday 22 March 2019 at the Goethe-Institut, Sydney.

The theme of the conference is Blick in die Zukunft – Looking to the future.

Workshop themes for which we are seeking presenters are:
  • - new K-10 German syllabus programming, assessment and reporting
  • - Stage 6 assessment strategies [German Beginners and Continuers]
  • - new Stage 6 course HSC Extension prescribed texts and/or themes
  • - innovative and effective classroom teaching and learning strategies
  • - other.

All applications require the signature of the applicant’s current principal. Please complete the EOI form below, and email as a PDF to maxine.acosta4@det.nsw.edu.au by 5pm on Friday 15 February 2019.

The 2019 NSW cross-sectoral German Teachers’ Conference Blick in die Zukunft will be held on 22 March 2019 at the Goethe Institut, 90 Ocean Street Woollahra.

The event focuses on:
- programming the new K-10 German syllabus
- task design in Stage 6
- discussions on the Stage 6 German Extension course prescriptions.

Seeking teacher presenters for German conference, May 2017

​The NSW Department of Education is seeking NSW public school teachers to present at the upcoming German conference: Wohin geht die Reise?
 
Your contribution can take various forms, for example presenting:
  • - go-to teaching and learning activities that are consistently engaging and effective
  • - a task-based unit of work that has worked well
  • - a unit of work you have programmed and delivered with another KLA
  • - expertise you have gained as an HSC marker (you might wish to collaborate with others in providing an overview of different sections of the exams)
  • - an initiative you have undertaken at school that raised the profile of German
  • - how you’re collaborating with your partner/feeder schools to create and/or sustain continuity in learning.
 
The NSW Department of Education will either pay one day’s relief for presenters to prepare their presentation or reimburse conference participation costs to presenters’ schools.
 
If you are interested, please email a one paragraph presentation proposal to Michelle Walls by Friday, 10 March 2017.
