The August 2020 Goethe-Institut newsletter has arrived, with lots to offer NSW German teachers.

Kurz und bündig workshops
These compact and convenient online professional learning units are aimed at teachers of German who are short of time and who are looking for new ideas and effective methods for their classes. Educators from Europe and Australia share their expertise and experience with digital content in short 60 minute sessions via Zoom. More information is available via the website.

GETVICO24 2020
Teachers of German are welcome to participate in the global virtual conference GETVICO24. This professional learning will commence on Wednesday 21 October and will include 140 presentations from around the globe. There is no cost to participate. The registration link and the program will become available soon. You can view sessions from the 2019 conference online.

Scholarships for online professional learning courses
Whether you are interested in methodology and didactics or in improving your language skills, the Goethe-Institut offers teachers of German a comprehensive selection of professional development courses. Please check the website for further details on the courses that scholarships are being offered for and application deadlines.

My grammar rules
The 90 minute online grammar workshops designed for teachers of German are back by popular demand. Every Thursday evening there will be workshops on effective methods for teaching grammar and new ideas for the classroom. More information is available online.

Professional learning
Professional learning has been organised by the GTB MLTAQ. It includes a practical presentation of a unit on pop culture, an exploration of online/remote learning tools and opportunities to share your experiences, resources and ideas. Come and enjoy the chance to network. All teachers of German are welcome to attend. Further information and registration details are available online.

Online materials
Given that more schools are faced with having to teach in a virtual classroom again, we have compiled a collection of materials that are suitable for the teaching and learning of German online.

Merit awards
Teachers of German in NSW can place orders for free book prizes for school students who have shown superior achievement in their studies of the German language. Further information is available online.

My grammar rules
Fortnightly grammar sessions are available to help high school students understand the most relevant grammatical concepts they need to ace their German exams. In each 90 minute virtual, interactive small group class an experienced teacher will explain one challenging grammatical topic and help to apply it. More information is available via the website.

Unternehmen Deutsch
More than 200 students of German in Australia are about to submit their fantastic product or service ideas for German companies in this year's creative contest for professional orientation. A shortlist of the most innovative and creative ideas can be viewed online the end of August. Take part in the online voting together with your students and let us know which one you like best. More information is available via the website.
