The English/French bilingual program at Killarney Heights Public School has been operating since 1999 and is currently enjoyed by 670 students (255 are native French speakers). The children have two qualified teachers in the classroom, the Australian teacher and a native French speaking teacher. The program involves intensive sessions with the native speakers and team-teaching lessons with the Australian teacher, with the whole classroom.
The French Speaking Association of the North Shore, FANS, employs 14 French native speaking teachers. They team-teach, with the Australian teachers, the Australian curriculum in French. In 2012, the school was awarded the Label FrancÉducation as recognition by the French Government of the excellent French / English bilingual education.
