All students sang in the mass choir, performing the national anthems of Australia and China and a song of unity written especially for the event. Talented students from our schools around the state also performed dances, rhymes, poems, kung fu, narrative short plays and even a cpop rock song! The Monkey King and the main characters of the famous Buddhist story ‘Journey to the West’ featured in many of the dances and acts, which suited this year’s theme, ‘Harmony and Dreams’.
The audience were also treated to very special performances by solo musicians Jiang Qiu, Xiao Yan Xu and Rong Wang who were visiting from China. Their performances on the Er hu, Gu zhen and the Pipa were very moving and beautiful.
All who went to the event were impressed by the skill and effort shown by the student performers. Parents and officials also appreciated the hard work of the Chinese teachers behind the scenes.
The event was organised jointly by the Confucius Institute of University of NSW and the Chinese Language Teachers’ Association of NSW Inc. It provided a wonderful showcase of Chinese language use in action, as well as Chinese culture. Well done to these organisations and all the performers on a successful event.
