Newcastle China Week will return for the third year running from Saturday 17th – Sunday 25th September to celebrate elements of traditional and contemporary Chinese culture. Language teachers maybe interested in checking out the festivities over the first weekend of the school holidays if they are in the Hunter, Port Stephens, Lake Macquarie or Newcastle region. Activities at the Newcastle China Week will include: Noodle Night Market and Outdoor Cinema, Chinese Film Festival, Chinese Business Forum, and Pop-Up Chinatown Street Festival on Beaumont Street Hamilton.

BOSTES Draft K-10 Chinese Syllabus: Online Consultation Survey closes Sunday 25 September 201616/9/2016 Chinese language teachers in NSW are reminded to have their say on the Draft K-10 Syllabus through the online consultation survey that closes on Sunday 25 September 2016. As Term 3 draws to a close next week, teachers are encouraged to download and review the draft documents from the BOSTES website and complete the accompanying online survey, available via this link: http://bit.ly/24w5hk0.
2016 Premier’s Kingold Chinese Language Teacher Scholarship: Julie Vuong, Arthur Phillip HS16/9/2016 Congratulations to Julie Vuong from Arthur Phillip High School, Parramatta, on being the 2016 recipient of the Premier’s Kingold Chinese Language Teacher Scholarship. This prestigious award is open for all teachers currently teaching Chinese language in NSW schools and TAFE NSW Institutes. The recipient is awarded for a study tour in any aspect of Chinese Language Education relevant to the NSW curriculum.

Coffs Harbour High School is seeking a teacher with approval to teach Mandarin and a willingness to teach Junior History and Geography. The load is full time, teaching Year 8 Mandarin, elective Stage 5 Mandarin and some Year 7-10 History and Geography. Coffs Harbour High School is one of the thirteen schools in NSW hosting a Confucius classroom and has a growing number of students studying Mandarin.
The temporary position is from 27/01/2017 - 19/12/2017. Applicants for this position are requested to submit an expression of interest. We encourage schools to complete the survey before the due date to ensure that any issues with the data or Signing Off can be rectified before the survey closes.
